In broad terms, we'll do whatever it takes to put the power of information at everyone's fingertips. The most efficient way for us is to 'empower' public charities so that they can they can provide, and customize, information services to their segment of the public.
Our 'toolbox' provides computing services to the general public through the internet. Individual clients create an account on our web site or one of our clients'. From there, they can create and share documents (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, presentations) via the world-wide-web (WWW).
Since we don't have enough space on our servers to support all the individual users we'd like to, we spend most of our time helping public charities distribute software services through their web resources. We give them all the software necessary to build the same web site and tools we use (if they want to do all the customization themselves), and all the support to do so.
The possibilities for distributing public computing services are endless. Schools can distribute software services to under-privileged students. Shelters can share their resources with the homeless. Small academic organizations can let members publish their work through the internet. Arts groups can give space to artists who otherwise couldn't promote their work. Workforce centers can distribute software services to job seekers. Similarly, we think we can also reduce the burden on government to support charities and their clients.
Contact a technology expert! One of our experts will walk through an initial checklist of what your needs are. From there a follow up call or on-site visit will be established.
The PCS mission is to put the power of information at everyone's fingertips. Our 'model' is to empower public charities so that they can they can provide information services to their clients. We also strive to make it easier for then to do their jobs, by enhancing their information technology.
Public Computing Services is an organization devoted to providing computing services to everyone. We do this by distributing internet software designed specifically to let public charities distribute computing services to their segment of the public.
While it is possible that you might download a file with a virus from your site, it's highly unlikely. We only allow authorized users to upload files and we scan them for viruses first. The only way a virus could make it onto your site is if one of your users inadvertantly uploaded a file with a virus that hadn't been 'caught' in the daily updates from our anti-virus partners. The only way it could then make it onto your computers would be if someone else downloaded it before our partners catch it.
In that unlikely scenario, we restore your site, scrub the file, update the virus 'signatures,' and help you remove the virus from any infected computers.
It's always possible that hackers could affect your site, but we do make it darn close to impossible for them. We store (and back up) all of your site's content in a secure database. We're constantly monitoring for threats and applying up-to-the-minute security patches from our partners. Even if hackers do get through the firewall and highly encrypted passwords, we can quickly restore your site, change all the passwords, and update all the security patches.
Our clients get little or spam through their web sites. We use forms, such as Contact Us, for visitors to contact you, instead of publishing your email address(es) on the Internet. That eliminates almost all spam.
To be extra sure, though, your Contact Us page will use CAPTCHA to make sure that Spambots can't flood your site. That won't prevent humans, e.g., unsolicited sales offers, from possibly sending you 'junk' contact submissions, but those are few and far between.
Our servers come standars with 100Mbps connection to the Internet with full burst capabilities.
All of our software packages are automatically updated when the maintainers release them. We upgrade all hardware when it reaches 80% of its operating capacity.
Sites are down less than 1 hour per year and never during 'business hours.'
We do a 'full' back up of each site daily. If anything ever goes wrong, we can restore your site (quickly) exactly as it was at midnight of the previous day.
If you need 'historical' backups, we can negotiate fees. That gives you the ability to restore your site to its state as of any previous day, instead of only 'yesterday.'
